Background Information about HOPE
HOPE 08 was a national initiative born out of many successful ventures in the early years of this century, where local churches had worked together to transform their communities. These had largely been city-based: HOPE 08 aimed to introduce the same approach in towns and villages. Some 1200 regional HOPE teams actively embraced the idea, with spectacular results.
HOPE aims
- to see churches working together, uniting in prayer, outreach and community action to help transform our neighbourhood …
- to provide opportunities for those who know God calls them to love their neighbour but don't know where to start …
- to do more, by doing it together and doing it in word and action …
- to point people to Jesus as they’re touched by his hands and his heart as well as his word
- " ... a really remarkable vision. I thank God for the inspiration that has driven it." Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury.
- " ... an excellent opportunity for people of all denominations to unite in regenerating their local communities." Sir Ian Blair, former Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
- " ... an initiative with the potential to be a catalyst, not just for one year." Roy Crowne -- Youth for Christ
Since then it has helped launch and promote a number of projects where members of all churches work together to assist the local community.
In 2010 its remit was widened to include oversight of all such projects in the Tonbridge area.

Work in hand includes increasing HOPE awareness amongst church members, making news of all HOPE projects readily available by networking their websites, and assisting all projects to remain fully staffed with volunteers.
