Parents Plus
PARENTS PLUS is a Tonbridge-based charitable venture, whose mission is to offer practical and emotional support, guidance and friendship for parents. We recruit, train and support volunteers to provide one-to-one parent coaching and to deliver positive parenting programmes in parents’ own homes, whatever the age, needs or background of their children.Our vision is that parenting skills and the parenting experience will be shared in relevant and enduring ways, will accord with broader societal aims, and will support the government's parenting agenda as it develops.
In a survey of British families conducted for the charity Parentalk, it was found that as many as one third of parents thought themselves a failure. This staggering statistic characterises a real and significant group of people — in a town the size of Tonbridge maybe as many as four or five thousand — with whom we plan to tackle this troubling perception.
Our goal is to help as many parents as possible away from destructive feelings of failure. Being a parent and bringing up children are vital and challenging tasks, and we seek to share and nurture a positive outlook for families and young lives today and in the future.
