Helpful Quotations

These quotations relate to "bush walking", the highly risky activity of walking in the open among the wild animals of East Africa. It is a pursuit not to be undertaken without a very wise and experienced guide! It must be done unarmed, as it would be an outrage to kill animals for your own protection, when you are the one who has chosen to walk among them. Don't read anything negative into the reference to "animals". The children who wrote this remarkable book held them in the highest possible esteem and loved them to bits!

I think bush walking is fantastic, if it is done the right way, unarmed with a deeply experienced guide, who is wise enough to keep out of danger.

I gained a deep respect for the animals, and looked at them in a different light. I realised they are not just there for our entertainment, they are struggling to stay alive in a tough environment.

A good walk, which is a safe walk, depends not just on the knowledge of the guide, but largely on the obedience of the guided.
